Since its official debut in early November 2021, following the conclusion of the 2021 World Championship, the Arcane series has become one of the highest-grossing cinematic products of late 2021. Not only is it the first work to open Riot’s cinematic universe, based on storylines from League of Legends, Arcane also attracted the attention of outsiders and contributed to a surge in interest in the national MOBA game.

The appeal of Arcane is undeniable, and even Hollywood stars – the capital of the film industry – are “hardcore fans” of the show. Notably, actor Henry Cavill, known for his role as Geralt in the series The Witcher and the new Superman on the big screen. After being introduced to Arcane, the actor “binge-watched” the entire series and even recommended it to others to watch together.

With such successes, Riot will naturally continue to explore stories based on the world of Runeterra. And Arcane Season 2 has also been revealed by this publisher to be in production, exciting fans. Additionally, Riot stated that Season 2 will still revolve around the conflict between Zaun and Piltover, as well as the fates of both main and supporting characters from the previous season.
However, recently, the CEO of Riot announced news that left fans of Arcane, as well as the League of Legends community anticipating this second season, feeling “mixed emotions”. Specifically, he stated that Season 2 would not keep the audience waiting for 6 years (Season 1 took Riot around 6 years to develop and produce). But the bad news is that Season 2 will not be released in 2022.

This may be disappointing news for fans of this cinematic series. However, with the ongoing complex global pandemic and the emergence of new variants, delays are understandable. Moreover, Riot certainly does not want its reputation of “making better films than games” to be affected if they don’t deliver a polished product and face backlash from audiences, as has occurred with their League of Legends game.
