Not long ago, Riot shared their feelings that League of Legends matches are happening too quickly, both in ranked play and in the professional scene. The reason, as the League community is likely aware, is the excessive damage output from champions, further amplified by the currently popular items such as Divine Sunderer and Galeforce. Therefore, Riot staff confirmed that they will need to consider adjustments to prevent matches from progressing too quickly and becoming monotonous.
However, rather than reducing the already excessive damage from League champions or from the hot meta items, Riot’s approach is to buff the durability, tankiness, and health of all League champions. This information hasn’t been officially announced by Riot, but a highly reputable account known for providing early updates about LoL has confirmed this.
Accordingly, all League champions will receive buffs to their base health, health and armor scaling per level, as well as magic resistance. Thus, at level 18, a typical champion will gain 308 health, 20.4 armor, and 13.6 magic resistance – a significant increase, especially for marksmen who are typically considered fragile against the current high damage output. Additionally, according to the information disclosed by this account, Riot is also reducing healing capabilities and increasing damage from Grievous Wounds.

However, this also means that tank champions, which are already “beefy,” will become even “beefier.” But the League community is focusing on the buffs for champions that are typically fragile. As one user pointed out: “Caitlyn now is as sturdy as the old Ornn.”

However, since this information is not yet official, and will certainly need to be tested on the PBE server, it is not guaranteed that these will be the final adjustments from Riot. One thing is certain: in the near future, possibly as early as Summer 2022, there will no longer be record-short matches. Teams will have to calculate their damage output more carefully to swiftly eliminate targets during engagements.
