A series of regions in League of Legends have been named as potential “on-air” sites if filming takes place in Vietnam
Recently, news that Riot Games and Hollywood had visited and worked with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam has ignited excitement in the community. According to a representative from Riot, the company plans to shoot scenes for an upcoming League of Legends movie (most likely a sequel to the Arcane series) with Cat Ba, Hai Phong selected as the filming location.

Not only are people excited about the news shared by Riot and the government agency, but the League of Legends community is also busy predicting which regions could be recreated in Vietnam when Riot officially starts filming the new movie.
For those who may not know, Hai Phong is one of six centrally-controlled cities in Vietnam. It is the third-largest city in Vietnam and an important port city, serving as an industrial hub, and is also a center for economy, culture, health, education, science, commerce, and technology in the Northern Coastal Region of Vietnam.

The Cat Ba Archipelago is located 60km from the center of Hai Phong city by sea, with an area of the proposed World Heritage Site being 31,150ha, comprising 388 islands. In summary, Hai Phong is a type of port city, gathering all the elements such as rivers, mountains, seas, and archipelagos.
According to many opinions, with its port city characteristics, Hai Phong would be perfect if Riot wants to recreate Bilgewater – the largest port city in Runeterra and a place that gathers a variety of societal elements. Notably, Bilgewater possesses an air of mystery and enchantment as it is home to some monstrous champions like Tahm Kench and Pyke.

However, if the location is in Asia, Ionia would also be a fitting choice. In Riot’s storylines, Ionia is depicted as the region with the most Asian characteristics. The mountainous and lake-filled landscapes of Ionia could be perfectly recreated in the Cat Ba Archipelago.

This could be a game-changing move for League of Legends in Vietnam
For League of Legends, the game has long attracted considerable attention from authorities. Notably, in 2025, the VCS will be broadcast on VTVCab platforms, further increasing the game’s popularity. Riot’s latest move could help League of Legends continue to attract attention and expand its brand in the S-shaped land.
Moreover, the filming by Hollywood and Riot here could bring tourism benefits and promote a positive image for Vietnam and Cat Ba, Hai Phong in particular. Perhaps at this moment, the League of Legends community is just waiting to see which name will be brought to life in this port city.
