Riot decides to rework Viktor in League of Legends in the direction of Arcane
Previously, when Viktor’s version was first reworked, it created a champion with a regal demeanor. Viktor can be likened to a League of Legends version of Victor von Doom from the Fantastic Four: possessing immense power, always wearing a mysterious mask, straddling the line between good and evil, and willing to sacrifice everything to achieve his goals. The names of these two characters are also quite similar.

However, after the release of the Arcane series (seasons 1 & 2), everything changed. Viktor’s identity was revealed in the show, and many opinions from Riot suggested that these details could be canon for the game. However, when Riot decided to rework Viktor in the game to resemble Arcane, a wave of backlash erupted.

Observations indicate that Viktor’s new appearance will be taller and leaner compared to the old version, aligning with Viktor Arcane. Additionally, Viktor’s new skill set will change very little. However, a series of Viktor’s skins will have to conform to the new design, which many viewers believe “loses the essence of Viktor.”
For instance, the Death’s Hand Viktor will lose the iconic mask that has been a defining feature and aesthetic of this skin line. Or the new Tester Viktor skin makes the champion look more like a student than a scientist.

League of Legends Community Upset with Riot
For League of Legends players, Viktor’s current design is quite satisfactory and exudes the familiar aura of this champion – a mad scientist who becomes a tyrant building his empire. Meanwhile, the Arcane design is merely an early version of Viktor, not yet clearly defining the style and philosophy of the champion in the future.
“I’m not a main Viktor, but I understand the thoughts of those players who love this champion. Viktor Arcane is great but should only stay within the realm of the film. Viktor Arcane is good, and no one denies that, but it doesn’t reflect what has made Viktor in the game,” one player commented on X.

Of course, if Riot has made a decision, they are unlikely to change it. And whether players like it or not, they will soon have to embrace the new Viktor and officially say goodbye to what has defined this champion in the past.
