Riot Announces Major Power Boost for All Magic Carriers in Teamfight Tactics

It seems Riot is making significant efforts to ensure Teamfight Tactics is no longer dominated by physical carriers.

If you are a Teamfight Tactics player, you may easily notice the significant power gap between physical and magic carriers at this time. Essentially, the physical carriers of season 7 possess stable power, have various equipment build options, and most importantly, do not rely heavily on technological cores.

Meanwhile, compositions revolving around magic carriers seem extremely unstable. You have to play very riskily to level up Nami and Ryze to 3 stars or rely on luck to obtain Ao Shin and Aurelion Sol early. Moreover, these compositions struggle to perform well if they lack energy-providing cores or win conditions like the Mage’s Rebirth, for instance.

Clearly, this is making Teamfight Tactics extremely unbalanced in many aspects. To address the current situation, Riot Games recently announced a series of magic carrier champions that will receive power boosts. According to the Director of Teamfight Tactics – Riot Mortdog, champions like Ezreal, Karma, Nami, Anivia, Sona, Daeja, Aurelion Sol, and many others will be upgraded in the upcoming version.

This is a necessary move by Riot to rebalance the power between physical and magic carriers. Furthermore, the power boosts for champions like Ezreal and Karma will also help bring back early shop rotations and break the dominance of the level 8 push style. In summary, these changes will make Teamfight Tactics better in the upcoming version.

However, there is another issue that Riot needs to address, which is the instability and excessive reliance on technological cores (which appear randomly). Riot could consider options such as increasing attack speed for Mages to regenerate energy faster and not rely on energy cores anymore.

Currently, while Mages have many energy regeneration items, their spell casting is still quite slow, which hinders the power of this champion group

Additionally, what the magic damage dealing traits and systems currently lack is a strong 4-cost carry. This would prevent players from having to play too riskily (rolling for 3-cost 3-star champions or searching for 5-cost champions) and make the ranking process safer. Hopefully, Riot will implement this in the future, especially in the mid-season update.
