Perhaps League of Legends players are no strangers to Riot Games’ favoritism towards Lux in recent years. With 2 Legendary skins, Cosmic Lux and Dark Cosmic Lux, she has officially set the record for the champion with the most skins in League of Legends, totaling 15, and moreover, these skins are evenly distributed across all ranks from Ultimate – Mythic – Legendary – Epic – regular skins. Not to mention the Elemental Lux skin, which is Riot’s most beautiful and complex Ultimate skin.

However, everything doesn’t just stop at skins, although they have already made many people dislike Lux. Riot Games truly wants to further empower this champion. However, a senior member of the League of Legends design team, Riot August, admitted that they really want to do so, but Lux’s stats at low ranks, specifically Silver rank, are too good, and they cannot buff this Lady of Light.
Riot August: “What prevents us from buffing Lux is her win rate at Silver rank, more specifically, Lux’s win rate in mid-lane at low ranks. What we can do right now to improve Lux is to reduce her interaction with AP and buff her cooldowns, base damage, mana, and things like that.
Basically, we want Lux to be a versatile champion rather than just obliterating an opponent. Lux needs to use her abilities accurately, buff shields, or crowd control enemies instead of just using Q + R to blow up an enemy champion. Lux is very strong at Silver rank, which is why we cannot simply buff her.

The truth is that at low ranks, very few players want to use tanks or champions with good durability. Therefore, a champion with high ranged damage like Lux is extremely powerful; what could be better than being able to deal nearly 1000 magic damage from a few screens away with R – Final Spark? Not to mention that in the late game, just being hit by a random Q – Light Binding can lead to your demise and potentially losing the match.

This results in an extremely high win rate and pick rate for Lux at Silver rank; of course, she is not in the top 1, but it’s enough to keep her off Riot Games’ buff list. Meanwhile, at higher ranks like Platinum and above, Lux in mid-lane is quite challenging to play and significantly weaker, simply because higher-skilled players can easily dodge her damage.

Just look at the mid-season 9, when Support Lux was so annoying as she dominated the meta from ranked matches to tournaments, and many players didn’t want to face her ever again. Perhaps League of Legends players need to thank the Silver players for effectively spamming mid-lane Lux, which has resulted in this champion having very good stats and not getting buffed.
