In the early hours of April 9th (Vietnam time), Riot Games unexpectedly released a noteworthy video discussing the future of League of Legends this year. First, Riot will undergo a series of upgrades to the Arena mode, increasing the number of teams to 8 and introducing a range of extremely powerful new items. Next, Riot also revealed the timing for the visual upgrade of Lee Sin (patch 14.9) and Teemo (expected in patch 14.20).

Most notably, Riot revealed that they will launch an entirely new game mode called Bullet Heaven. This is introduced as a player-vs-environment mode where gamers will try to survive as long as possible with various ways to upgrade their characters. The release date for this game mode will coincide with a major event in the mid-season of this year.

Furthermore, Riot also shared images of this game mode in its development phase. Keen-eyed gamers immediately recognized that it resembles a previously popular game, Vampire Survivors. From the main gameplay to the way monsters appear in Riot’s product, it closely mirrors this game. Therefore, the Bullet Heaven mode is likely to present a significant challenge for players.

Not stopping there, Riot also revealed that champions entering this game mode will undergo a “transformation.” “We haven’t finalized the list of champions for this game mode, but only a select few characters will appear there. Basically, the characters will still possess abilities based on the League of Legends version but will have special adjustments to fit the nature of the new game mode. Therefore, our job is not simply cutting and pasting a champion from League of Legends into this game mode. Including all League of Legends champions in Bullet Heaven is impossible due to technical issues,” a Riot employee shared on Reddit.

Immediately after this information was shared, the League of Legends community expressed immense excitement about the new game mode. This enthusiasm stems from the fact that since the launch of the Space Team skin line (in 2018), League of Legends has not introduced another genuinely captivating PvE game mode. The arrival of Bullet Heaven promises to inject fresh air and provide League of Legends players with a mode that is both entertaining and challenging.

“A new PvE game mode? We are really back!” – An excited player commented.
“All PvE modes are extremely fun. I hope they will soon bring back the Super Terrifying Machine or Space Team” – Another player expressed hope that Riot will revive old game modes.
“The mode inspired by Vampire Survivors really excites me. I hope it is well-designed and gets enough recognition to become a permanent game mode like Teamfight Tactics” – Another player shared.

Remember back in 2019, Riot Games made a historic trend-following move by successfully creating Teamfight Tactics, which remains popular to this day. Hopefully, Riot’s learning from Vampire Survivors this time will lead to similar success and help this game mode flourish.
