Fredit BRION has never been considered a worthy opponent against the giants of the LCK, despite occasionally pulling off small surprises against top teams. However, on the first match day of week 3 of the LCK Summer 2021 group stage, this team left the reigning world champion DWG KIA embarrassed with a 1-2 defeat.
Not only was it reflected in the score, but looking at the progression of the match, DK completely underperformed against a team deemed weaker. After a few improved matches with position swaps, the weaknesses of the DK lineup, with 2 members playing off-role and one substitute player, were fully exposed in this defeat.
ShowMaker, who is not a pure marksman, continued to struggle during the laning phase. In game 1, his Ezreal failed to make any impact on the match, arguably becoming the “black spot” of DK, as the bottom lane lost early and allowed BRO to take the lead by securing the first turret.
Meanwhile, jungle player Malrang also proved why he had to play a supporting role. Without his signature pick Rumble, Malrang seemed quite harmless against the opponent, while Canyon couldn’t carry the team as well as ShowMaker did while playing in the mid lane.
The peak of disappointment came when DK allowed BRO to steal the Baron in a 4 to 2 scenario, with DK having 4 members at the Baron pit but being ambushed by BRO’s bottom lane duo Kalista – Gragas, and support Delight managed to steal the Baron right under the noses of the reigning LCK and World Champion.
Consistency seems to be something that DK has completely lost since the MSI 2021 ended. The season is still long ahead, and perhaps DK fans will hope for Ghost to regain his form soon, rather than witnessing the team using a patched-up lineup as it currently stands.
