Over the past few years, we have become quite familiar with gaming awards like The Game Awards or Esports Awards. These awards are created to honor outstanding games, game developers, as well as top athletes and content creators each year.

For those gamers who love League of Legends specifically and Riot Games titles in general, this year they also held an award ceremony of their own. This award is named after its creator – Necrit, who is a dedicated YouTuber passionate about the lore of League of Legends and has been with the game for a long time. The results of the Necrit Awards 2021 include:
Best Champion Design of the Year: Vex.

Best Soundtrack: Gwen.
Skin of the Year: Blitzcrank.
Best Lore: Sona.
Best Developing Lore: Yasuo.

Best Supporting Character: Von Yip.
Best Short Story: The Final Chapter of Soates, author – Matt Dunn.
Best Newly Revealed Lore: Shimmer.
Best Newly Created Content: The Hextech Upgrade System from Teamfight Tactics.
Best Riot Game: Ruined King.

As mentioned above, this award is highly “shade-throwing.” The reason is that although it was created to honor Riot games, League of Legends ended up with nothing in the gaming categories. Especially in the two awards for “Best Newly Created Content” and “Best Riot Game,” both the Ultimate Spellbook mode and League of Legends itself failed.
Even in the “Best Short Story” award, it was given to the work “The Final Chapter of Soates” by writer Matt Dunn. If you remember, Riot Games had cut ties with this guy even though they knew Matt Dunn was in a very tough situation. This award is nothing but a mockery directed at Riot for having fired their best writer.

Fairly speaking, League of Legends’ failure at an award ceremony organized by the players is relatively understandable. The game itself has been facing numerous issues regarding champion balance, items, runes… which has led to a deteriorating experience for players.

Meanwhile, other Riot games have performed much better in those aspects. For example, the Hextech Upgrade System in Teamfight Tactics has been highly praised by many players for creating unique and exciting gameplay. Or Ruined King brings a completely new experience and helps players understand more about familiar characters like Yasuo, Ahri…

Of course, the above awards are just for fun and hold no real merit for Riot. However, it also shows that League of Legends is facing many issues regarding gameplay, balance, and players are far from satisfied.
