As reported, on October 4th, Canyon got into trouble for violating Riot Korea’s rules regarding the use of non-registered accounts for gaming. Specifically, in a video clip interacting with female singer Kang Hye-won – a former member of IZ*ONE, to keep Canyon’s ID secret, Khan and the female idol, the content production team of DWG KIA provided an employee’s account for the three to use. However, for professional players in particular and League of Legends gamers in general, this violates Riot’s policy to prevent account boosting and smurfing.
Recently, Riot Korea officially issued a punishment for Canyon and the DK team. Specifically, Canyon was fined 300,000 won (about nearly 6 million VND) and his main account was suspended for 30 days. The DK team was fined 2 million won (about 38 million VND). Furthermore, DK and Canyon have 14 days to appeal.
This punishment can be considered reasonable, especially considering that Canyon’s use of another person’s account was unintentional and solely for filming purposes. Moreover, this player and DK are about to enter a challenging journey to defend their championship title at the World Championship. A just punishment will serve as a deterrent while not overly affecting Canyon’s mentality, especially since he is a key player in DK’s current top lane strategy.
Before Riot’s punishment was issued, many opinions from the League of Legends community both in LCK and internationally strongly condemned the actions of DK’s content production team as well as Canyon. Playing on another person’s account, regardless of the reason, is always a sensitive issue in the League of Legends scene and Esports in general, not to mention that Canyon, as a professional player, should be well aware of the rules. However, it can be said that at this moment, Canyon can breathe a sigh of relief and prepare for the upcoming matches as he does not have to face punishments that could have been much harsher.
