A renowned player with a “record” worse than Chovy at Worlds
In the history of Worlds, not every talented player gets the chance to claim the throne or even come close to lifting the championship trophy. After all, winning Worlds is the dream of every League of Legends player. In a playground filled with talent, there are winners and losers. Chovy can be considered a talent, yet he remains “unlucky” in terms of winning Worlds. In fact, his record is quite poor, as in the last 5 Worlds, Chovy has a record of 88848, which means 4 times finishing in the Quarterfinals and once eliminated in the Semifinals.

However, there is one player who has performed even worse than Chovy, and that is GALA. Having once dominated MSI with Royal Never Give Up, GALA has also faced struggles at Worlds. In his last 4 appearances at Worlds, GALA’s highest achievement has been reaching the Quarterfinals. This means that while Chovy has at least made it to the Semifinals once, for GALA, that has been a luxury over the past 4 years.

Most recently, at Worlds 2024, GALA continued to suffer defeat against Weibo Gaming in the Quarterfinals. Notably, this could have been GALA’s best chance to advance, as his team, LNG Esports, had achieved 3 consecutive wins in the Swiss round. Among the teams LNG defeated was Bilibili Gaming, the reigning LPL champion.

Worlds is a ruthless battleground
Clearly, Worlds has shown its ruthlessness, and with each passing year and changes in the format, the competition has only intensified. For two consecutive years, the “king of LEC” G2 was unable to even get past the Swiss round. Meanwhile, many surprising scenarios have unfolded, such as WBG making their way from “the brink of elimination” to the finals of Worlds last year.

This season, several surprises have occurred, and just recently, the undefeated LNG squad was eliminated. Worlds 2024 still promises many surprises, especially with blockbuster matches like HLE vs. BLG and T1 vs. TES yet to start.
