VCS Player Worthy of the Title “Chovy of Vietnam”
In recent years, as Chovy gradually asserted himself and became a top Mid Laner in the LCK, another name has emerged in Vietnam, leaving a significant mark in the hearts of VCS fans. None other than Gloryy – the former Mid Laner of Team Whales. With a playstyle focused on “farming minions + carrying the team” like Chovy, and with Gloryy idolizing the superstar currently wearing the Gen.G jersey, this player has affectionately been nicknamed “Chovy of Vietnam” by VCS fans. However, according to a former analyst from GAM Esports in a “half-joking, half-serious” post, it is Kati who truly deserves the title “Chovy of Vietnam”.

Specifically, according to Molecule – an analyst in the League of Legends community, Kati’s playstyle is quite similar to Chovy’s. Both players boast very high farm stats, differing by only 0.1 (Chovy 10.5 – Kati 10.4). Additionally, other stats such as gold/minute (Chovy 493 – Kati 500) and damage/minute (Chovy 836 – Kati 802) show little difference. In fact, both players have used Corki the most in their champion pools this summer. Coincidentally, Chovy and Kati both have 4 first-place finishes and 2 second-place finishes in the last 6 domestic seasons.

– I think this is the moment for Kati to decide. He is no stranger to the Worlds, so the reason of “first time” can no longer be used. He is the G.O.A.T midlaner of VCS (some might say it is Optimus, but Optimus performed worse at Worlds). If he can do something like GAM 2017, he will receive the recognition he deserves.
– I am very excited to see Kati at Worlds 2024 under these conditions, with more in-game responsibility compared to his time at GAM. I believe the Worlds meta will suit him very well (his Syndra, Ryze, and Jayce were very well executed last year against TW).
– I want to see more highlight moments from players from teams that have to compete in the Play-Ins. That could make this phase more interesting.
– I worked with GAM during Summer 2022 and Worlds. Kati stated back then that he wanted to play like Chovy.
Chovy and Kati are both on the path to proving themselves
Although he cannot be compared to Chovy – the Mid Laner currently regarded as the best in the world in terms of reputation and potential to win Worlds 2024, it would not be an exaggeration to say that Kati is currently the best midlaner in Vietnam’s League of Legends. However, for many years, the “blemish” from MSI 2023 against wildcard teams has always haunted Kati, no matter how well he performs. Kati was also part of the GAM roster that defeated Top Esports and Team Liquid, making Knight and APA break a sweat, but many VCS fans still have not fully recognized Kati’s impact.

Similarly, Chovy is still struggling to find his first Worlds championship title, despite having debuted a long time ago. Additionally, Chovy still needs to prove that he can be a backbone for the entire team. In VCS Summer 2024, Kati has often been the standout player, uplifting Vikings Esports and leading his teammates to victory. However, Chovy recently failed at the Esports World Cup 2024 when he seemed stuck against Creme. In the recent LCK Summer 2024 finals, although Chovy was the best of Gen.G, he was clearly outperformed by Zeka.

Both Kati and Chovy need Worlds 2024, one to prove himself without Levi – Kiaya to perform well on the international stage, and the other needs a Worlds championship title to rise among the ranks of the greatest midlaners in League of Legends history. Each has their own goal but ultimately seeks to bring home a victory for the team they represent. However, with this comparison, many fans are also eagerly anticipating if VKE can surpass the Play-Ins and face Gen.G at Worlds 2024.
