As we know, on October 4th (Vietnam time), Riot officially announced the MV GODS – the theme song for the World Championship (Worlds) 2023 taking place in South Korea. Unlike previous years, this time, a local girl group, NewJeans, will be the first female group from South Korea to perform the theme song for the biggest League of Legends tournament. Therefore, from its debut, the song has attracted much attention and analysis from the global LoL community.

Of course, the content of the MV remains the most attention-grabbing part. Despite the music and performance of the girl group being quite controversial, almost no one can deny that Riot has crafted a truly excellent storyline for MV GODS. With the main theme centered around Deft and his journey to glory, the song’s content is rated as outstanding, even better than previous legends like Warriors or RISE. At the same time, the interaction between Deft and Keria has also been widely discussed across social media platforms.

However, there is a regrettable absence that League of Legends fans, especially T1 fans, are mentioning. Specifically, Marksman Gumayusi is missing from the MV despite having a brief scene where all 5 members of DRX 2022 gather around Deft and attack Faker – Keria. According to many opinions, Riot could have utilized a scenario where both sides gather their forces and fight against each other to truly reflect the context of Worlds 2022 and League of Legends in general (which is inherently a 5v5 game).

Furthermore, the absence of Gumayusi is even more regrettable considering his Varus shone in last year’s finals with a Baron steal that went down in history. However, many believe that the storyline revolves around Deft (a Marksman), who interacts quite a lot with Keria (Gumayusi’s current teammate), so including him would seem redundant and illogical. After all, Faker is almost an indispensable character while the Deft – Keria story is much easier to explore psychologically. Not to mention, Deft could potentially “steal the spotlight” if Gumayusi appeared.

Moreover, Gumayusi probably would not want to be mentioned in the media, especially after the criticisms directed at him over time. The best focus and training is what T1 players need right now to prepare for the 2023 Worlds, which could also be the last Worlds for the current roster.
