These days, the community of LoL is “buzzing” about the upcoming Ultimate Weapon skins for Ekko, Fiora, Pantheon, and Lucian in patch 10.10. However, Skarner has not heard any news in over half a decade.

Skarner, the Desert Guardian, was released on April 26, 2015, and is the latest skin for the Crystal Scorpion, marking the fourth skin for this champion. For one of the oldest champions in LoL, this number is indeed modest and leaves Skarner’s fans feeling quite disheartened.

Skarner holds the record for the longest duration without receiving a new skin. Following closely with 1,000 days without a new skin are Kayle, Ornn, and Syndra. It seems that not only the balance of champions is a challenge, but also the balance of skin designs for the 148 champions in the League of Legends universe is a complex task for the Riot team.

Interestingly, many champions that haven’t received a new skin in over 1,000 days are not humanoid. This could be one of the primary reasons they are not prioritized for skin design since Riot can more easily complete skins based on human models or Yordle types. For instance, Bard, Shyvana’s dragon form, Kindred, Vel’Koz, and Skarner (except for Malphite or Alistar, who each have more than 10 skins).
