LPL Fans Point Out the Worst World Championship Champion in History, Demand Immediate Dissolution

Not DRX, this is the world champion considered by viewers to be the worst in history.

In the history of League of Legends, a total of 13 World Championships have been held, with SKT T1/T1 being the team with the most championships, having won 4 times. This team is also the most successful in the history of League of Legends. Additionally, SKT T1/T1, along with Samsung Galaxy, has completely dominated this tournament, as the predecessor team of Gen.G also has 2 championships. However, the LPL has also been impressive since Invictus Gaming broke the LCK’s dominance until now. This region has always been seen as the “great rival” of the LCK, and in 2023, it almost brought the World Championship trophy back to the land of a billion people.

Not every team that wins the World Championship succeeds, especially LPL teams.

Of course, for every successful team, there must be a failing one. In the history of League of Legends, we have witnessed many teams that, after being crowned champions, almost completely disappeared. However, in recent times, as investments have become more refined and teams have performed closer to their actual capabilities, this situation has nearly disappeared, unless the players of that team actively leave, such as DRX 2022, where only BeryL and Juhan continued to wear the “Dragon Blue” jersey in the 2023 season.

DRX cannot be said to be declining when they themselves could not maintain their lineup after winning the World Championship 2022, and their victory was considered a 'miracle'.

Nevertheless, according to LPL fans, the team that is currently considered the worst World Championship champion in League of Legends history is Edward Gaming. The 2021 champion rightfully claimed the title, but perhaps, aside from teams that have disbanded or completely changed their roster, no team has had as erratic a performance as EDG. In the 2022 season, they lost their spot at MSI and almost missed out on the World Championship. By 2023, the situation worsened further as they were completely absent from both of the most important international tournaments in the League of Legends scene. Additionally, JieJie and Meiko, the only two remaining members of the EDG lineup that won the championship back then, have seen a significant drop in form by the end of the 2023 season.

This lineup is unstable both in terms of expertise and internal morale, and they are currently sitting near the bottom of the standings.

In 2024, Meiko has also left, and EDG has truly “hit rock bottom” in terms of performance and results in the standings. With a wealthy team like EDG, this performance surely does not satisfy the fans. On forums, many opinions have called for the team to dissolve and rebuild from scratch after the Spring Split ends. The internal situation of EDG is not improving either. Leave, after returning, no longer shows the high form of last year. Meanwhile, Ale recently lost his starting spot to Solokill, a younger teammate in the team.

Fans believe that the current EDG lineup is only at an average level and they have restructured too hastily.

After winning the championship, many teams also undergo significant changes. However, EDG has not lived up to expectations and the investments made into the team. In the context of young players not meeting requirements, the frustration of EDG fans as well as LPL viewers is completely understandable.
