In League of Legends, many individuals possess mysterious powers in various ways. Atreus gains strength by becoming the vessel for the Aspect of War, later becoming the new Aspect of War after being slain by Aatrox; Zoe becomes the Embodiment of Twilight due to the attention of the Aspect of Twilight; or the Darkin seek human bodies. And now, even Swain himself – the Noxian Grand General has joined this ranks.
Currently, Fiddlesticks’ rework is becoming the most talked-about name, thanks to its new skill set and a terrifying trailer. Especially, when Fiddlesticks’ voice lines were revealed, we could feel the utmost horror this champion brings. As we can see, most of Fiddlesticks’ lines mimic the last words or actual quotes of other champions to instill fear in them.
However, Fiddlesticks’ lines when encountering other demons, such as Evelynn, Nocturne, Tahm Kench, etc., are completely different. He directly calls their names. But wait, when meeting Swain, he refers to the Noxian Grand General by a very strange name, one that has never appeared in League of Legends: Raum.
So who is Raum?
According to demonology, Raum is a Grand Duke of Hell, the 40th demon among the 72 demons of King Solomon. As recorded in various accounts, his past was that of an angel named Thrones, and after his fall, he became a dark demon of duke rank, commanding 30 legions of demons.
Raum can transform between human form and a giant crow when necessary or at the request of the summoner. He possesses a voice that roars like thunder, knows the past, present, and future, and can reconcile conflicts between enemies. He often destroys villages and cities; creates discord; steals treasures from any king and takes them to unknown places, except for himself.
And as we have seen, all these characteristics relatively match Jechiro Swain. He is the duke ruling the tyrannical Noxian empire, associated with carrion crows on the battlefield, capable of far-sighted vision and commanding troops at the frontlines. In addition to his soul-stealing ability, Swain possesses a strange demonic arm with incredibly terrifying power. He can even uncover the past, future threats, and secrets that no one should know, such as the truth about Ashe’s Ice Bow, the secrets of magic in Demacia, the identity of Kai’Sa, the appearance of Pyke, or the relationships between ancient entities like Aurelion Sol.
So when we string together these events, we can conclude the following:
Raum was originally an Ancient Evil, a being that was defeated and sealed by other entities. A part of his soul was imprisoned at the Immortal Fortress, along with an arm that was severed beforehand. To escape from the Fortress, he created a demon in the form of a scarecrow, along with his demonic arm to seek the 4 keys that could unlock the seal. However, the last key was stolen by Zoe, causing Fiddlesticks to go on a rampage, slaughtering humans to gather souls and seek information about that key. This continued until the war between Noxus and Ionia broke out, attracting this demon there.
In that battle, Swain was defeated by Irelia, losing his arm, and when on the brink of death, he encountered Fiddlesticks. However, not only did Raum heal him but he also chose him, granting him power along with his demonic arm now attached to Fiddlesticks. This is why Fiddlesticks has a mechanical arm different from the other scarecrow arm, while Swain possesses a part of Raum’s power, also gaining control over that scarecrow to attack Demacia.
However, these are just theories about the relationship between Fiddlesticks, Swain, and the name Raum. Perhaps, we need to wait for Riot’s answers in the future to be certain.
