Throughout history, World Champions have secured their number one position through their true skills, but many fans jokingly say that they also need some “spiritual buffs” to win. Let’s revisit these “buffs” so that teams can prepare them before the new season begins.
“Wife Buff”

The “Wife Buff” was first mentioned when Ambition crowned the champion of Worlds 2017, as he had just married at the beginning of 2017 and then conveniently took home the World Championship trophy by the end of the year. In the second instance, the “Wife Buff” was used by Doinb, who had never attended Worlds before marrying, yet right after marrying in 2018, he became the champion of Worlds 2019.
Therefore, many fans jokingly say that if anyone wants to win Worlds, they should hurry up and get married as soon as possible to enjoy this special “buff”.
“Idol Buff”

At the end of last year, DAMWON Gaming (DWG) was eliminated in the quarter-finals by G2 Esports at Worlds 2019. However, this year, DWG made a comeback and avenged their past losses against G2, even claiming the championship of Worlds 2020 with a completely overwhelming performance against the other teams. Some fans joked that it was all thanks to the female idols who passionately cheered for them, helping the DWG players’ performance “skyrocket”.
“Korean Buff”

Many fans believe that the dynasty of LCK has not crumbled as much as people discuss. Since Season 3, if it’s not Korean teams winning, it’s teams with at least two Korean members (not to mention the coaching staff). Therefore, purely domestic teams will have to work incredibly hard to win Worlds when facing this “buff”.
