After a shaky start, FunPlus Phoenix has finally found their winning streak in the LPL Spring 2020 with 6 consecutive victories. As of now, they are temporarily ranked 3rd in the overall standings, behind Invictus Gaming and the “rookie” eStar.
In FPX’s impressive performance streak, alongside the return of Gimgoon replacing Khan in the Top lane, the shining of the “golden boy” of the wife-fearing community – Doinb, is the most crucial key that helped the reigning Chinese League of Legends champions regain their conquering identity.
With the recent victory over Bilibili Gaming, Doinb has entered the top MVP of the LPL Spring tournament with a total of 9 MVP titles out of 14 game wins for FPX. This means that the total number of MVPs Doinb has obtained is nearly double that of all his teammates combined.
This statistic shows the importance and the exceptional “carrying” ability of the Korean star in the FPX lineup. However, in the post-match interview against BLG, when asked about how he feels about winning so many MVPs, Doinb jokingly replied:
“I want to thank my teammates, I got this achievement simply because they… play too poorly. When we win, there’s no one worthy left to give the MVP to. Guys, I hope you keep playing poorly so I can keep getting MVPs for a long time!”
Of course, Doinb’s boasting is purely in jest, and surely the members of FPX do not feel offended by this statement, as they are already quite used to it.
However, the reality shows that FPX is indeed facing performance issues among its players, as aside from Doinb and somewhat Gimgoon, both Tian, LWX, and rookie Khan have not yet delivered stable and convincing performances.
Remember that all 6 names of FPX currently, including Khan, are stars who shone brightly at the 2019 World Championship (Khan was the most stable performer of SKT alongside Clid), so fans have high expectations for them.
Doinb’s joke may not carry a bad implication, but it certainly serves as a reminder that the FPX members need to quickly improve their performance if they do not want to fall behind in the championship race.
