After officially bidding farewell to the team’s star players Naul and BigKoro, Dashing Buffalo has recently announced a change regarding the team’s branding, specifically the renaming of the team from Dashing Buffalo to Saigon Buffalo, starting from the VCS Summer 2020 tournament.
[OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT]
The Dashing Buffalo team will change its competitive name to Saigon Buffalo starting today.
Saigon Buffalo, abbreviated as SGB, will be the official name of the team in tournaments, transfers, and collaborations with partners in the future.
The Dashing brand will remain the main sponsor and will continue to support the Buffalo team until the end of the Summer 2020 season. We hope you will continue to support Saigon Buffalo and the Dashing brand in the long journey ahead.

The team’s management also mentioned that although the name Dashing will no longer be part of the team’s title, Dashing will still be the official sponsor accompanying Saigon Buffalo in the upcoming season.
Renaming to Saigon Buffalo may be a step aimed at making the Buffalo brand a more iconic name. For example, since the name change from Young Generation to Phong Vũ Buffalo, the name of the former VCS champion has always been associated with sponsorship brands, and they have changed names twice within the last two years.
The constant name changes in a short period can cause some difficulty for fans in remembering the names. When referring to the first golden generation of SGB, people will call them YG, but when discussing the glorious achievements of the 2018 – 2019 period, we must refer to them as PVB.

In reality, name changes are not a strange occurrence, but for Buffalo fans, it carries significant meaning, as instead of calling the team by the sponsor’s name, their favorite team will now have a more distinctive name, while still having enough basis to promote their partners’ brands.
Moreover, have you ever noticed how long it has been since we last saw names like Can Tho Cherry, Hanoi Phoenix, Hanoi Full Louis, or Saigon Jokers on the Vietnamese League of Legends map? The story of a name, even if it consists of just a few letters, can bring great pride to the gaming community of those locations (even though most League of Legends teams in Vietnam now have their headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, making the “local” aspect less pronounced than before), especially when their team has the opportunity to compete in international tournaments.
Clearly, the announcement of the name change for DBL (now SGB) has received a lot of support from the gaming community for the reasons mentioned above, and let’s look forward to this team’s performance in the upcoming VCS Summer 2020 to see if “a name change can bring fortune.”
