It is a well-known fact that newly released champions in League of Legends always boast stunning designs and more profound voice lines than older characters. This leads to older champions becoming outdated in terms of both audio (in-game dialogue) and visuals (character design). Gradually, they lose their appeal to players.

Naturally, Riot Games cannot just stand by and watch their champions become outdated. Therefore, they have been rolling out updates, both big and small, for older champions recently. First, Rammus received a series of brand new skill effects and ultimate ability. Just yesterday, Riot also announced a “visual overhaul” for Kog’Maw.
Not stopping there, updates like these will appear more frequently in the future. Specifically, in the latest article on their homepage, Riot confirmed that they will introduce multiple gameplay, effect, and voice line upgrades for a range of League of Legends’ older champions. The first two names mentioned are Teemo and Jax.

A player asked: “I read the previous article and wondered if the voice lines and sound effects would be upgraded? Some champions have relatively poor voice lines, which sometimes distract players.”
Riot Games: “Indeed, we have a lot of voice lines in the game. As the game evolves, the old voice line system also needs updates. We have taken in a lot of feedback regarding upgrading the game’s audio and are working to improve it. For example, using Q – Taliyah’s Rock Slide will produce some special sounds when you use this skill to slide.
We are working hard to bring you updates in the coming months. First, regarding unnecessary voice lines, we will remove them soon, especially those related to ultimate abilities. We want ultimate-related voice lines to be truly memorable for players.
The team will also limit unnecessary information through in-game audio. For example, recall voice lines for champions will only be heard by the player using that character. Voice lines when taking down enemy champions will only be heard by the player and the opponent.
Riot will use gameplay, visual effect, and voice line upgrades to help older champions feel more current. Old characters like Teemo and Jax only have about 10 voice lines, and upgrades will help add depth to their stories.”

In the early years of League of Legends’ development, Riot Games could not build a complex storyline system like now. Therefore, the dialogue and interactions between early champions couldn’t be too extensive. Thus, characters like Teemo and Jax only have very simple voice lines, unlike the more complex interactions of other champions.

This will change in the future with the plans announced by Riot. We cannot rule out the possibility that Teemo and Jax will also undergo skill adjustments. This is a fitting way for Riot to add new voice lines when using skills for these champions.
