For League of Legends players, the hero’s name is quite important as it reflects personality, reputation, and sometimes playstyle. These factors can change over time, so League of Legends players generally have a significant desire to change their hero’s name. Currently, players must spend 1300 RP (priced at over 100,000 VND) or 13,900 blue essence to purchase a name change card.

Recently, Riot Games has made announcements to players about synchronizing Riot ID with hero names. Riot’s initial plan was to allow players to change their Riot ID (along with their hero name in League of Legends) once a year. If players wanted to change more frequently, they would have to spend RP equivalent to 10 USD (about 240,000 VND).

However, this policy from Riot has faced backlash from the community, who argue that a one-year wait to change to a new Riot ID is too long. Furthermore, having to spend RP to change names was considered unreasonable. Therefore, in the latest announcement, Riot has reduced the waiting time for changing Riot IDs to just 90 days. Additionally, Riot has also removed the option to use RP for name changes mentioned earlier.

Not stopping there, Riot also shared that they will add a hashtag display next to players’ Riot IDs whenever they enter a match. This will help distinguish players who share the same Riot ID and accidentally join the same game. Moreover, Riot is also looking for ways to prevent professional players, content creators about League of Legends, and other Riot games from being impersonated.

In summary, with the changes to the Riot ID system, players will now be able to change their names completely free every 90 days and will no longer need to use RP for name changes. This change will officially take effect from November 20. The League of Legends community is very pleased with Riot’s decision as they have made reasonable changes that cater to the desires of players.
