A few days ago, with the release of patch 10.13, Riot Games implemented the reporting feature during champion select in League of Legends primarily for data collection and testing purposes. The first two regions to apply this system are North America and South Korea, with plans to roll it out to other regions later.

Although it’s still in the testing phase, international players have gradually noticed the less-than-ideal consequences of this system. A recent post on Reddit bluntly pointed out that “This system will only lead to people going silent while picking troll champions, forcing you to leave the game if you don’t want to lose and praying that your reports will make a difference.”

I don’t want an additional reporting tool during champion select; I want the reporting system to work better.
All the reporting during champion select will do is prevent your teammates from cursing while picking champions, or the system will punish them. This is no different from regular League of Legends matches; staying silent means you’ll never get banned. If your teammate says nothing and then picks Singed with Cleanse in the ADC role and gets away with it. No matter what the reason is, I’ll quit and not play that match.
Honestly, if the system is still bad, adding a reporting feature during champion selection won’t change anything; to get Riot’s attention, you have to spend 15 minutes reporting that player with terrible stats. I don’t have much faith in Riot Games’ reporting and punishment system. In summary, this system will only make people refrain from cursing, but they’ll still pick troll champions as usual, or you’ll either quit immediately or play a terrible match.

Perhaps we are too frustrated with Riot Games’ reporting system, as there are players who have ruined games for dozens of matches without getting banned, while others get their accounts locked for saying very normal things. Adding a reporting tool during champion selection will only exacerbate this situation if Riot Games does not upgrade the quality of its punishment system.

Perhaps Riot Games should change the core issue regarding the accuracy of punishments rather than adding new flashy tools like the current situation.
