Gumayusi Points Out a Truth About T1

As known, during the 2025 offseason transfer window, Gumayusi left T1 to join HLE after completing a 3-peat at the World Championship and achieving FMVP with the team. It can be said that Gumayusi’s career at T1 was nearly complete, as he was only missing the MSI trophy. However, the first tournament Gumayusi attended with HLE ended in a 3-2 defeat against his former team T1. Recently, the former T1 star shared his thoughts regarding his departure.

Specifically, the reigning 2025 World Champion stated: “I think that if I want to become the best player in the world someday, I cannot stay at T1. It’s not because I dislike T1 or for any other reason, but I think I always wanted to build my own career. So, I believe this moment (just after winning the World Championship and achieving FMVP) is the right time.”

At the same time, Gumayusi also acknowledged that his former team is very strong, particularly with Faker in the lineup. However, Gumayusi is confident that he can surpass his old team in upcoming matches. “I think the way to prove that is to perform my best next year.”

Gumayusi’s Share Highlights the Challenges of Being at T1

In reality, it is not uncommon for players to want to leave T1 after achieving success. However, throughout history, the number of players who have left T1 and still reaped glory can be counted on one hand, including Duke and Scout. Even team captain MaRin and others like Impact, Piglet… have never accomplished this. Therefore, it can be said that Gumayusi has set himself a monumental challenge, tougher than winning the World Championship.

But it cannot be denied that Gumayusi’s departure after a year of ups and downs and just achieving glory with T1 is also a fitting choice. Unlike the predecessors, Gumayusi is still very young and in top form. Therefore, he may become the next exception, proving that he can still succeed even without being alongside Faker anymore.
