Gen.G Players Subtly Criticize Coaching Staff After Loss at 2025 Worlds
Recently, Gen.G faced off against KT in the semifinals of the 2025 Worlds. Contrary to the expectations and predictions of the League of Legends community, Gen.G was “taken down” and subsequently eliminated from the tournament held in China. Thus, Gen.G’s season ended in an unsatisfactory manner once again. Additionally, Support Duro directly criticized the draft decisions of the coaching staff during the post-match interview.
According to Duro, “In my opinion, the draft has a significant impact. Especially in game 3, I really felt helpless watching the game go downhill right from the draft phase. We debated a lot during that game with the coaching staff about the champion tier arrangement to come up with the best draft.”

In fact, picking Anivia for Chovy was a puzzling decision, while Kiin had to use Yorick— a champion that is out of meta this year at Worlds and couldn’t create any surprises in team fights— a crucial factor that had helped Kiin bring Gen.G back on track in earlier games.
Kiin himself also expressed dissatisfaction with the drafts used by Gen.G in the match during the subsequent interview. It can be said that this team, before entering the two decisive games against KT, was already seen as defeated.
Gen.G Coaching Staff Must Take Responsibility for the Loss at 2025 Worlds
Based on what the players shared, the Gen.G coaching staff must bear a significant part of the responsibility. While it is true that the players’ performance was not good, allowing the opponents to have very strong draft options (Azir, Poppy, K’Sante) while the team composition lacked effective counters was a crucial factor leading to Gen.G’s swift defeats in games 3 and 4.
