As we know, the champion skins honoring the 2019 World Championship winner – FunPlus Phoenix – have officially appeared in the League of Legends store in the recently updated version 10.9. Putting aside the debates about whether these skins are ugly or beautiful, their release still brings joy to the gaming community, as players now have new options to add to their collections.

However, while some are celebrating, there are certainly those in distant Europe who are feeling quite the opposite. That would be G2 Esports, the team that was defeated by FPX in the finals of the 2019 World Championship held late last year.
The moment the FPX skins appeared in the store, memories of G2’s past defeat came rushing back. On the team’s Twitter, a photoshopped image of the League of Legends store was posted, replacing the FPX skin news boxes with a crying cat image, conveying a thousand words as every time G2 members log into the game, the FPX skins seem to taunt the defeated.

It’s understandable that they are crying, as G2 is known for their motto “win to be king, lose to be trolled.” They have maintained the tradition of “early boasting” since winning MSI 2019, and even before the World Championship final against FPX last year, Caps and Perkz boldly declared they would choose Yasuo as their championship skin.
But life doesn’t always go as planned; FunPlus Phoenix was “strong beyond expectation,” and G2 couldn’t even retaliate, losing 0-3 in a match where Caps and Jankos were utterly destroyed by Doinb and Tian.

Moreover, the echoes of this defeat are even more “painful,” as we know that the World Championship-winning team gets their own champion skin, and as of now, only Fnatic is the sole Western League of Legends team to own such a skin.
If G2 had won last season, they would have had a reason to have Fnatic fans “hide in their caves” while flaunting their new skins; unfortunately, FPX ruined everything, while Fnatic continues to comfortably “taunt” their long-time rivals with the champion skin from their 2011 World Championship victory.
