In the final match of the VCS Summer Promotion 2020, FTV Esports lost to Percent Esports with a score of 2-3, officially relegating them from the VCS tournament. Shortly after this defeat, Mr. Trần Đức Viễn – the owner of FTV also announced the disbandment of the team.
Specifically, the reason FTV could not continue in the professional League of Legends tournament system in Vietnam is that the team has been operating without a sponsor since its establishment in 2017, competing out of passion. The owner of the team also apologized to fans and players for not being able to maintain FTV’s activities.
This announcement also means that the FTV Esports team will officially disappear from the Vietnamese League of Legends scene after nearly 3 years of existence.
Established in September 2017 by members of the FAP TV filmmaking group, FTV Esports was initially regarded as one of the most attractive teams in the Vietnamese League of Legends scene, thanks to FAP TV’s considerable reach at that time.
Over 6 seasons competing in the VCS, this team has made a significant mark by producing promising young stars like Slayder, Divkid, and Victory. However, in terms of collective achievements, FTV did not perform particularly impressively and often finished the season in the lower half of the standings, having to compete in the Promotion Round twice in VCS Summer 2019 and VCS Spring 2020.
This team was also known as the “Gatekeeper”, as they consistently pulled off miraculous comebacks in the late season to escape the relegation zone. In the Summer 2019 season when they had to compete in the Promotion Round, they successfully regained their spot in the VCS Spring 2020.
However, as other teams in the VCS increasingly invested heavily in their rosters, the gap between FTV and its competitors widened. Not to mention that many key players showed signs of declining performance, preventing FTV from achieving another miracle in the VCS Summer Promotion 2020 and officially losing their spot in the tournament, leading to the team’s disbandment.
