Former World Champion Predicts “Dark Future” for LPL After BLG’s Performance
It can be said that LPL has never been in such a dire situation as it is in Worlds 2025. BLG was eliminated early after the Swiss Stage, without even facing any teams from LCK. This performance is even worse than EDG’s in 2017 – the number one seed of LPL that year, as that team went through a very tough group stage against the mighty SKT T1. Furthermore, after BLG’s defeat, the former world champion of 2019 – Doinb – predicted a dark future awaiting LPL.

Specifically, Doinb stated: “Currently, no position in a League of Legends team in LPL has a young player waiting in the wings. The current players are all getting older. Do you think of Jungle or Mid Lane, Top Lane? The most crucial position that’s lacking is Support. There might be a few for Jungle or ADC, but for Top Lane, at least we still have Xiaoxu who is decent.”
LPL is Facing Many Difficulties After BLG’s Early Exit from Worlds
Assuming AL or TES can advance from a group that conceals a highly unpredictable “monster” known as “LPL’s Slayer” T1, they still have to face the “mountains” named HLE or Gen.G on the other side. These are two opponents that even AL at their peak performance would find hard to defeat unless they make mistakes themselves.

Therefore, the likelihood of another winless season at Worlds is drawing closer for LPL, despite participating in this tournament right on their home turf in China. Continuing to be winless since 2022, coupled with the disadvantages mentioned by Doinb, LPL is clearly facing a rather “dark” future. They are lacking a successor generation, while the current players seem to have hit their peak and are unable to progress further, if not sliding downhill.
