For fans in the LPL region, EDward Gaming (EDG) holds a very special significance. They are the closest LPL representative to have won the World Championship in the 2021 season. Furthermore, EDG’s championship journey at Worlds 2021 was also quite remarkable as they defeated strong representatives from LCK such as Gen.G and DK.

Despite having such a glorious past, EDG is currently showing a significant decline. In fact, in a recently posted video on the social media platform Weibo, EDG was harshly critiqued by their former star, Meiko. The star support of Top Esports (TES) bluntly stated that he does not want to scrim with EDG because the quality of this team’s play is too poor.
In a video capturing a reunion meal with old friends, Meiko shared about the current EDG: “My team does not want to scrim with EDG at all. Simply because the quality of those scrims is not good and does not provide any benefits. Some other teams have similar complaints.”

Since their championship at Worlds 2021, EDG has shown a clear decline in recent years. Especially after the departure of key players such as Flandre, Scout, Meiko, and Viper, EDG’s performance has worsened season by season. From being the champion of LPL Summer 2021, they have only achieved positions like top 8 or top 6 in subsequent regional tournaments.

Even before the upcoming LPL Summer 2024, this team has parted ways with notable players like Ale and Fisher. This has left EDG’s roster both at a low quality and lacking any recognition. Perhaps this is why Meiko made such harsh remarks.

It is important to note that in the recent LPL Spring 2024, EDG finished second to last in the group stage with only 3 wins. With a weakened lineup suffering serious losses, it would not be surprising if EDG continues to fall to the bottom of the LPL Summer 2024 standings. This is truly a sad prospect for a team that was once the pride of the LPL.
