When mentioning SofM, many will immediately think of a jungle player with unique champion picks, a creative control playstyle, and an audacity to play aggressively when needed. SofM is recognized by the LPL community as the player who has changed the jungle style for players here. Moreover, he is the only Vietnamese player to have reached the finals of a World Championship to date.
SofM himself has also received absolute respect from colleagues, teammates, and opponents alike. Not only players from Vietnam or the LPL but also players from other League of Legends regions look up to SofM as an idol. Additionally, SofM is the only Vietnamese player to be “deified” by LPL fans, ranking him alongside the legends of League of Legends in general and the LPL in particular, such as TheShy, Faker, Uzi, and MadLife.
In the LPL Spring 2022, SofM became teammates with TheShy under the Weibo Gaming banner. The current WBG roster is considered very strong, and while there are still inconsistencies, WBG shows that they have the potential to compete for titles. Many believe that if SofM and TheShy, along with names like Angel, Huanfeng, and ON, play at their peak, WBG could definitely stand as a rival to top teams like EDG or LNG.
Recently, former World Champion 2019 and close friend of SofM, Doinb, continued to shower praise on his younger brother who frequently duo queues with him. Doinb stated: “For me, SofM is a jungle player with a very strong and bold playstyle. He is suited for ‘all-star’, super teams. I think if SofM teams up with Chovy, in just 20 minutes, these two will be full build, with 3 mythic items, and the opponents will just surrender.”
Doinb’s assessment is not without reason, as both SofM and Chovy are very strong lane and farm players. Furthermore, both players tend to play to win lanes, establish control, and then win the game. If there is a mid-jungle duo like that, it’s not hard to understand why by the 20-minute mark both could be full build – something nearly impossible in today’s League of Legends.
Of course, it would be nearly impossible to envision SofM teaming up with Chovy as the “Vietnamese God of the Jungle” is currently seen as preparing to transition over the hill of his career. However, from Doinb’s praise, it’s clear that SofM is still performing well and undoubtedly, he along with TheShy will be the spearhead of WBG in their quest for titles this season.
