For fans of League of Legends (LoL), the LPL and LCK have always been the top regions in terms of development and tournament quality. This is evidenced by the fact that over the past few years, representatives from LPL and LCK have alternated in winning the World Championship. Matches between these two regions also receive significant attention.

However, in a recent conversation with former Riot Games CEO – Nicolo Laurent, he revealed some surprising information about LoL. Specifically, the former CEO disclosed that LoL is declining in the LPL region, even though it remains an immensely popular game. The reason for this is the rapid growth of the mobile platform.
“The truth is that LoL is declining in the LPL region. In other regions, LoL is in a stable phase. The reason is that many players are gradually shifting their entertainment from PC to mobile platforms. Honestly, we (Riot Games) are not pleased with this, but we’ve found ways to adapt to that trend. Therefore, LoL has been made available on mobile with the game Wild Rift” – Former CEO Nicolo Laurent shared with the Riot team in Shanghai.

Indeed, over the past few years, the growth of the mobile platform in the LPL region has been extremely rapid. A multitude of mobile games such as Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile, and even Genshin Impact have generated enormous revenue from this. This has changed the entertainment habits of many players in the LPL region, and PC games like LoL are gradually losing their appeal.

On Riot’s side, they are also taking steps to adapt to this trend by releasing Wild Rift and Legends of Runeterra. Additionally, LoL itself needs to undergo changes to retain players. Hopefully, Riot will make the right decisions to help LoL attract more new players in the future.
