For League of Legends (LoL) players, the “Autofill” feature has become all too familiar over the years. Essentially, this feature allows players to be assigned roles outside of their chosen position in ranked mode. For example, a player who selects Mid Lane and Top Lane could very well end up playing Support due to this feature.

For the reasons mentioned above, the “Autofill” feature has made players feel extremely frustrated. Being forced to play in an unfamiliar position puts gamers at a significant disadvantage. Moreover, it also creates negative psychological states for League of Legends players, which generally leads to failure.

Of course, Riot Games has its reasons for implementing the “Autofill” feature. It significantly speeds up matchmaking and saves players a considerable amount of time. However, due to the disadvantages it brings, Riot Games has planned to remove this feature from League of Legends.
Specifically, starting from version 13.7, the “Autofill” feature will be removed in some smaller servers like Eastern Europe and Oceania. Additionally, all members of a team must select different primary and secondary roles before they are allowed to queue for a match. This is a necessary step in the complete removal of this feature from League of Legends.

After this information was announced, many League of Legends players expressed their support for Riot Games’ decision. Many even suggested that Riot should quickly implement this across all League of Legends servers in 2023. Hopefully, Riot’s testing process goes smoothly, and the removal of the “Autofill” feature will soon be widely applied.
