As of now, fans are likely aware of the selection process for the League of Legends (LoL) representative from South Korea to participate in the ASIAD Hangzhou later this year. Many names have made the list, including players currently competing abroad. However, considering recent years and their professional performances, it is likely that the roster will be limited to the LCK region.

Of course, choosing from superstar names like Canyon, Faker, Chovy, Gumayusi, Kiin… is not an easy task for any selection committee or coach. Except for Faker, who is almost guaranteed a spot as he represents the entire South Korean LoL scene, the other names are quite uncertain. In fact, even Faker himself may not secure a starting position.

Recently, when the Western LoL community discussed the representative lineup from South Korea for ASIAD, Faker’s name unexpectedly saw a significant drop in trust levels. Almost all votes leaned toward Chovy for the Mid Lane position. Some fans even bluntly stated: “Faker might go to Hangzhou, but it will be very hard for him to compete for a spot with Chovy, at least at this moment. In the recent finals, Chovy played better than Faker, that’s clear.”

This assessment is grounded in reality as Faker has not performed well, especially in game 4 of the LCK Spring 2023 finals. In fact, his play with Ahri caused T1 to lose their advantage. Many experts believe that Faker shows clear signs of aging; the longer the match goes on, the easier he becomes to make mistakes.

However, Faker’s composure and experience are qualities that still surpass Chovy. Chovy has yet to perform well on the international stage, notably in the 2022 World Championship. If Gen.G’s Mid Laner continues to show lackluster performances in international tournaments, he will face difficulties competing for a spot at ASIAD. Because even when performing poorly, Faker has led his team to 5 consecutive finals, whether it’s Worlds or MSI. Additionally, the performance at MSI 2023 will significantly impact the chances of the players attending ASIAD.
