Recently, Riot announced the “Eternal Legends” collection – the name of the Hall of Legends skin line featuring champions Ahri and LeBlanc, which has been chosen to honor Faker – the “G.O.A.T of the League of Legends scene.” Even before the official release of this skin line, many could guess that the price of this collection would be extremely high, even at an unprecedented level in the history of LoL. However, when the official price to fully own the collection was announced – around 60k RP, equivalent to about 6 million VND – many gamers were still very shocked. Even international players believe this is an exorbitant price.

Notably, there have been many sarcastic comments directed at Riot for this price concerning a skin line “supposedly honoring Faker.” In fact, an LPL fan made a rather sharp remark: “Riot releases an extremely expensive skin line to honor a player who has hardly spent any money on skins throughout his career in the game.” It can be seen that while understanding the significance and everything encapsulated in the collection, the price exceeding that of normal skins is quite understandable, but perhaps Riot has truly gone overboard.

Looking back in the past, during a talk show with celebrities from the Korean entertainment industry, which featured many famous MCs, actors, and singers from K-biz, Faker admitted he only spends about 200 USD a month, surprising everyone present: “In reality, I don’t spend much money. I mainly just use it to buy a toothbrush and toothpaste. And in fact, gamers don’t need to spend too much money.” Faker also confirmed that living in the team’s gaming house helps reduce many costs.
Therefore, even though it might have been a long time since Faker spoke about this, it is apparent that the price of the HoL skin line is too high. With a player who always prioritizes saving like Faker, he probably wouldn’t want his fans to spend too much money on this collection, even if it’s meant to honor him. In fact, even with his SKT T1 skins, Faker only bought them much later and he uses them very sparingly.

In reality, the demand and spending capability of each fan are different, as is the affection for Faker; no two fans are alike. However, with such an expensive collection, everyone should carefully consider before “reaching for their wallets,” especially when their idol always emphasizes saving and maximum reasonable spending as a principle for life.
