Faker Loses to Gen.G Duo in One Statistic at Worlds

Even Faker Falls Behind This Gen.G Duo.

The Gen.G Duo Achieves a Record at Worlds, Surpassing Faker

In the history of League of Legends, there is no doubt that Faker is the greatest player of all time. In both domestic and international arenas, he has dominated almost entirely, losing only one MSI championship to the LPL. At Worlds, Faker is unparalleled. However, at this prestigious event, there is one statistic where he falls behind Gen.G’s Chovy and Canyon: the number of consecutive appearances in this tournament.

Chovy and Canyon are the two Gen.G players with the most consecutive Worlds appearances.

Both Chovy and Canyon have made 7 consecutive appearances at Worlds since 2019. Currently, only ShowMaker is close to matching this achievement, having participated in 6 iterations of the biggest international tournament in League of Legends. This means that since their debut, neither Chovy nor Canyon has missed this event.

Meanwhile, from 2019 to now, Faker experienced a year in 2020 where he could not participate in the tournament he has always dominated. This was also the period of his most significant decline in performance, leading many to believe that the era of the “Demon King” had officially ended. After ShowMaker’s crowning, many fans and experts considered the DWG Mid Laner as the new “king” of the LCK and the world.

But Faker Still Has Many Opportunities to Catch Up with the Gen.G Duo

In the new format of the LCK, it is entirely possible for Faker to increase his consecutive Worlds appearances to 6. As long as Gen.G wins against KT, regardless of the T1 – HLE result, both teams will immediately secure their spots at Worlds.

But Faker can very well participate in the biggest League of Legends tournament for the sixth consecutive time.

In terms of consecutive appearances, it is clear that Faker has fallen behind. However, when it comes to effectiveness, no team can match T1. The worst record for this team is a Semi-Final finish. And to this day, Faker remains the player with the most Worlds championships—an achievement that may be unmatched even when League of Legends disappears.
