During a League of Legends livestream, TheShy had an “unbelievable” conversation with Ning about DOTA 2

After a bitter defeat at the 2023 World Championship, TheShy decided to part ways with Weibo Gaming (WBG) and temporarily step back from playing League of Legends. Nevertheless, TheShy remains one of the most famous players in the LPL region. Therefore, many fans believe that after a few months of rest, TheShy will regain his motivation to compete and make a strong comeback in the summer split.

However, TheShy recently surprised fans with his thoughts about his future during a livestream. Specifically, he and Ning discussed whether they could still compete professionally until the age of 30. At that point, Ning mentioned that many professional DOTA 2 players continue to perform well even after turning 30. In fact, TheShy even agreed with the idea of him and Ning switching to DOTA 2 to chase a championship.

Ning: You know, there are a lot of players over 30 in DOTA 2.

TheShy: What if I switched to DOTA 2?

Ning: I’m pretty good at DOTA 2.

TheShy: Do you think we could win a championship together?

Ning: Winning TI? It’s definitely possible. But that game relies more on experience than pure skill.

TheShy: I hear they have really big prize pools over there, right?

Ning: That’s true, but in recent years, they’ve decreased. However, there are still some tournaments with huge prize pools.

TheShy: Maybe I should take a few years off and then we can switch to ‘go pro’ in DOTA 2.

Ning: That’s definitely possible.

This conversation between Ning and TheShy quickly shocked the LPL League of Legends community. Everyone knows that League of Legends and DOTA 2 are direct competitors in the MOBA genre. Therefore, the idea of a renowned League of Legends player switching to DOTA 2 is truly something no one expected.

It should be noted that since Wings Gaming won The International (in 2016), no other DOTA 2 team from China has repeated this achievement. The lack of new quality faces is believed to be the main reason for this unfortunate situation. If TheShy is serious about this intention, he could bring the much-needed “fresh air” to the Chinese DOTA 2 scene.

Fairly speaking, the intention to switch to DOTA 2 is still just a light-hearted conversation between TheShy and Ning. The chances of this happening are relatively small since TheShy has no experience with DOTA 2. If one of the biggest stars in the LPL (TheShy) truly transitions to competing in DOTA 2, it would undoubtedly be a shocking event.
