After the conclusion of Week 3 of LCK Summer 2022, the strength of DRX was highly questioned as they suffered a complete defeat at that time. Of course, the loss to T1 was understandable, but being defeated by a struggling LSB in the middle of the standings was hard for DRX fans to accept.
Perhaps for this reason, DRX approached the game very differently and performed much better in the current fourth week of competition. They even just defeated their direct competitor DK with a score of 2-1 yesterday (July 7). In a post-match interview, DRX’s BeryL stated that DK failed when the team tried to change their playstyle after losing to T1 and Gen.G.
Question: What do you think is the decisive factor for your victory against DK?
DRX BeryL: Personally, I think DK is trying to change their playstyle after losing to T1 and Gen.G. We discovered this and were well-prepared for the drafting phase and gained an advantage. I can’t go into detail, but DK seems to be struggling, and part of that is due to their failure in trying to change themselves like that.
If you haven’t forgotten, BeryL is one of the founding members of Damwon Gaming, now known as DK. Therefore, this player understands DK’s gameplay as well as his former teammates like Nuguri, Canyon, and ShowMaker. Thus, BeryL was able to easily read DK’s attempts to change their playstyle, providing DRX with valuable information to take down this opponent.
As for DK, they are likely trying to implement ShowMaker’s previous comments about playing faster and more proactively like an LPL team. However, having been accustomed to a control-style gameplay, DK will face many challenges in shifting to this new style. They will have to endure defeats, like the recent loss to DRX, in order to fully change themselves.
On DRX’s side, they will face a much tougher opponent this weekend, which is Gen.G. The DRX players themselves say that Gen.G is currently the strongest team in the LCK, so winning against them is extremely difficult. Fortunately for DRX, they will be able to observe the match between T1 and Gen.G to gain more insights into the strengths and weaknesses of this opponent.
