Recently, the LPL organizers and Tencent officially announced 10 skins dedicated to the top 10 greatest players in the history of the tournament. For those who don’t know, this list was voted on to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the LPL tournament’s debut to the League of Legends community. The players who made the top 10 include Uzi, Clearlove, Doinb, Scout, Rookie, Xiaohu, Ming, TheShy, JackeyLove, and Meiko. These are all legendary names from LPL and the LoL scene.

Notably, apart from Uzi, Xiaohu, Clearlove, and Ming, the remaining names have all been World Championship (Worlds) champions. Additionally, with the established reputation and influence in the Chinese LoL scene, Uzi also receives a Prestige skin. Of course, these tribute skins are exclusive to the LPL server.

However, Doinb – one of the 10 players voted “Top 10 Greatest of LPL” – made surprising comments about the tribute skins from the LPL organizers and Tencent. Doinb admitted he had no idea that a tribute skin would be created for him. Doinb stated: “I had absolutely no idea that I would have a tribute skin for ‘Top 10 Greatest of LPL’ until I woke up. They didn’t even ask us about which champion we wanted. And you’re asking me if we get a share of the profits from selling these skins?”
Doinb’s revelation shocked the LoL audience. Prior to this, many opinions have suggested that the tribute skins look no different from the chromas of Worlds skins. Except for a few players who haven’t had Worlds skins, many viewers believe that the LPL organizers and Tencent have completely taken from the tribute skins of champion players, then added a few details regarding colors and styles. Among these, Doinb might be the most frustrated player. His Malphite FunPlus Phoenix skin has always been rated as one of the ugliest Worlds skins in the history of the tournament and this skin is also not well-received.

Furthermore, Doinb’s admission that players were not informed about the tribute skins for the “Top 10 Greatest of LPL” can imply that the players might not receive any profits from the LPL organizers or Tencent for these skins. If this is true, it is clear that Tencent and the LPL organizers are profiting off the players’ reputations without regard for their feelings or those of the fans.
