Throughout the history of League of Legends, Riot has released numerous skins with various designs, themes, and price points. Among them, there are expensive skins that are criticized by the LoL community for being costly yet ineffective. Meanwhile, there are some skins that are slightly cheaper but beautiful and are even seen as “boosting morale, strength, or giving an advantage to players.” Notable examples include the Cowboy Lucian or the Super Vayne… and they are referred to as the “pay-to-win” skins in the LoL community.
Recently, the community discovered another skin that deserves to be included in the “pay-to-win” list that Riot has released. Specifically, it is the skin “Blitz Always with Crank” from the Wonder Planet series, launched in 2021, coinciding with April Fools’ Day. This day is typically used for teasing and joking, and Riot often releases skins with humorous elements on these days. However, with what is happening with the Blitzcrank Wonder Planet skin, it is clear that the LoL community “cannot laugh at all.”
Specifically, Riot’s own employee, Riot Kassadin, discovered a severe bug with this skin line. When Blitzcrank uses the aforementioned skin, the hit-box (range for skill use) of his Q – Rocket Grab becomes extremely “magical.” In fact, according to the clip posted by Riot Kassadin, even though the opponent’s Aphelios has Flash to a position completely opposite to the pull’s range, Aphelios still gets hit by Blitzcrank’s ability.
Right under Riot Kassadin’s post, the LoL community was also astonished by Blitzcrank’s hit-box in this situation. Some immediately called it “this is Blitzcrank’s pay-to-win skin.” Meanwhile, many others suggested that there might be a bug in Blitzcrank’s skill code (from the moment of use until hitting the target) causing a conflict with Aphelios’ Flash in that situation.
Even though the clip was posted, Riot representatives did not respond to any comments from the LoL community regarding Blitzcrank’s skin. However, it seems that the publisher needs to quickly fix this issue, especially as the Blitzcrank Wonder Planet skin is also a favorite among many players of this pull-based champion.
