It can be said that, alongside the match between KT Rolster and T1 a few days ago, the showdown between T1 and Gen.G was even more anticipated. This is because these two teams have been fiercely competing against each other for many consecutive seasons. As of now, Gen.G has somewhat taken the lead with important victories over T1. And the match on the afternoon of August 12 (Vietnam time) recorded yet another victory for Gen.G against Faker and his teammates.

With the victory over T1, Gen.G has officially become the first LCK team to qualify for the World Championship 2023. This Worlds will see LCK representatives, especially T1 and Gen.G, under the spotlight, especially if Faker and his teammates also qualify. Both teams were defeated in the last MSI by representatives from the LPL. With the Worlds being held on home soil, LCK representatives cannot afford to fail, especially against the LPL. Meanwhile, T1 has a history of not being able to qualify for Worlds when held in their home country. This is a scenario that no LCK or T1 fan wants to see repeated.

Additionally, with the achievement of qualifying for Worlds 2023, Chovy has also become the next player to make the list of those who have participated in 5 consecutive Worlds. Notably, Chovy achieved this milestone with 4 different teams, from 2019 to now. The teams that Chovy has represented at Worlds include Griffin (2019), DRX (2020), Hanwha Life Esports (2021), and Gen.G (2022 and 2023).

Chovy’s achievement surpasses even that of Faker. The T1 mid-laner could not match the achievement of his junior since he missed the 2014 Worlds held in Seoul, South Korea. That was also the Worlds that opened the “unwanted record” for SKT T1/T1 whenever Worlds was held in the land of kimchi. It was the only year that Faker could not participate in Worlds, from 2013 to 2017.

At this moment, Gen.G is actually somewhat weaker than last year. However, they remain a formidable force and have proven their strength in the match against T1. And throughout this journey, Chovy remains one of the most crucial elements for Gen.G’s title contention.
