Decoding the Dance of Death Craze – From Situational Item to Core Item for Every Fighter

The Dance of Death has quickly become the favorite item for all top lane Fighters after a minor adjustment in patch 10.6.

Before patch 10.6, the Dance of Death was quite a niche item, seemingly only used frequently by the Darkin Aatrox. The problem with this item was that it wasn’t a primary damage-dealing or defensive item that players aimed for; the Dance of Death was only built when the opponent had the potential to deal overwhelming damage, and you needed long-term survivability.

Furthermore, the stats of the Dance of Death at that time did provide a lot of Attack Damage, but lacked any attack effects, thus keeping it as merely a situational item. However, in patch 10.6, the Dance of Death underwent a complete transformation, offering less damage but providing armor and magic resistance, which are incredibly essential stats for Fighters. This item has now entered the top 5 most purchased items for top lane champions, accompanied by a 58.1% win rate.

So why does reducing damage while adding defense make the Dance of Death so popular? The answer lies in the current champion qualities of Fighters and the “absurdity” of this item. This item is commonly used by Fighters like Sett, Aatrox, Wukong, and even champions like Irelia and Fiora can benefit from it. These are all champion types that utilize both skills and auto-attacks to deal damage.

The Dance of Death provides cooldown reduction, damage, and lifesteal, making it incredibly suitable for the Fighter class. Additionally, the passive of the Dance of Death helps top lane champions significantly reduce damage taken and recover well. The only drawback of this item is that it cannot be built early, and players must decide whether to purchase it based on the game’s situation.

Once the Dance of Death was given additional armor and magic resistance, this item became extremely “absurd” and made Fighters unstoppable. Just a bit of added armor and magic resistance in the mid-game helps champions not die too quickly when facing burst damage, allowing Fighters to dive into your team and wipe out the entire team with ease.

Moreover, the ability to convert burst damage into damage over time for melee champions up to 30% makes Fighters even stronger. With such a series of buffs, players can easily build the Dance of Death as their second or third item to engage better without fearing dying too quickly. You no longer need to wonder which defensive item to use because this item is simply perfect.

It seems that Riot Games is giving a lot of love to Fighters lately; in the previous patch, it was the Infinity Edge, and now the Dance of Death has received numerous buffs. With these champions rarely nerfed, and items being continuously buffed, it’s clear that Riot Games truly wants to turn top lane Fighters into real demigods.
