The World Championship 2022 (Worlds 2022) will be one of the special tournaments for the VCS community. It has been a long time since Vietnamese representatives had the opportunity to return to the biggest international stage of the League of Legends (LoL) scene. Moreover, this time both GAM Esports (GAM) and Saigon Buffalo (SGB) bring completely new looks, promising many surprises ahead.

One of the characteristics of the VCS region that attracts international attention is its preference for engaging in captivating and eye-catching team fights. In the minds of many international viewers, the VCS representatives may be at a disadvantage compared to their opponents, but they are never afraid. In fact, the teams are willing to engage head-on and catch their opponents off guard. A prime example is SGB’s performance at MSI 2022, which nearly caused Royal Never Give Up (RNG) and T1 to “suffer defeat”.

For both experts and international fans, VCS is always an unknown factor whenever any team from this region competes internationally. Recently, the legend CloudTemplar of Azubu Frost – the runner-up of Worlds 2012, shared some interesting insights about the VCS representatives at the upcoming Worlds 2022.
“If you look at the matches in VCS, the kill counts are usually very high and the matches are very exciting. They (VCS teams) will fight relentlessly. This is what I have noted down. They engage a lot and win through skill. However, this sometimes brings them more disadvantages. There is a thin line between being too eager for fights and losing the entire match. But VCS is a developing region” – CloudTemplar commented.

“The junglers of VCS are always praised. Levi of GAM is very familiar and now there’s also BeanJ of SGB. Shogun of SGB also performed quite well at MSI 2022. GAM is like an upgrade of SGB. They have several similarities. I think SGB will have a chance to defeat one of the major regions. But their playstyle is always entertaining, whether they win or lose” – The former Azubu Frost star added.

At Worlds 2022, GAM will go straight to the Group Stage while SGB will have to play in the Play-In Stage against strong teams like RNG and DRX. But surely, VCS fans can fully trust that both teams will bring surprises. In fact, with careful preparation, having both VCS representatives advance to the Group Stage of Worlds 2022 is entirely within reach.
