Chovy Actively Practicing a “Quirky Matchup”
In the LCK Summer 2024 alone, there have been many “quirky” champion picks from various teams. For example, Olaf has already secured 2 victories in the hands of Zeus during the playoffs against KT Rolster. Notably, we cannot overlook the two Nasus picks in the Top Lane by Morgan and Kiin. Recently, it was also discovered that Faker used Nasus in the Mid Lane, and in fact, ShowMaker used this choice in Game 1 against BNK FearX. The results have been quite promising, and many viewers are curious how Chovy will deal with ShowMaker in the upcoming match.

However, it’s not just Faker or ShowMaker choosing “quirky picks”; Chovy is also experimenting with a champion that rarely appears, especially in the LCK and even in solo queue, which is Garen. It can be said that Garen is considered to be “one and the same” with Nasus in terms of tankiness and lack of mobility. But one of Garen’s main strengths is his sturdiness, allowing him to engage in fights early and possessing a final ability considered to be “one-shot kill”.

Is Chovy Looking to Counter Opponents Using Nasus?
Chovy’s item build for Garen leans more towards damage rather than increasing the tankiness of this champion. In matches, Chovy’s Garen has dealt significant damage, with some matches reaching nearly 70k damage. For a champion like Garen, this is an almost unimaginable amount of damage. Additionally, according to some opinions from the community, Garen’s Q ability (Decisive Strike) can counter most of Nasus’s skills (removing slow effects, preventing Nasus from using Q when hit, and also preventing him from gaining speed due to being Silenced). Moreover, the early engage capability starting from level 6 will allow Garen to easily “shut down” Nasus completely regardless of which lane they are in.

It’s possible that Chovy is practicing this choice for the upcoming matches against ShowMaker and then Faker/Zeka. But this is also just a situational pick, and Gen.G’s Mid Lane will only choose it if the opponent “dares” to use Nasus.
