Entering the World Championship (Worlds) 2023, Gen.G is viewed as a top contender for the championship alongside JD Gaming. Notably, they are the reigning LCK champions and all players are in peak form. In fact, many opinions suggest that if Gen.G cannot at least reach the finals of Worlds 2023, there might not be any opportunity left for this team. But of course, this will depend on the performance of the players themselves.

However, despite not having won any Worlds title in his career, Chovy has managed to set some impressive records that even legends like Faker might struggle to break. First, as previously mentioned, is his achievement of reaching the Quarterfinals five consecutive times. This is a significant effort, especially considering that Chovy has not always played in a truly dominant lineup, such as during his time with Hanwha Life Esports.

Previously, with Gen.G participating in Worlds 2023, Chovy has had five consecutive appearances at Worlds. Thus, it is evident that every time he competes in Worlds, Chovy manages to at least advance past the group stage. With both of these achievements, Faker does not hold either, and with his current age, it may be difficult for him to match Chovy’s records. This is because, in the past, Faker missed three Worlds tournaments since he started his career, specifically in 2014, 2018, and 2020.

Additionally, Chovy also broke the record for the highest rank points in Challenger in Korea while competing with his teammates at Worlds 2023. Specifically, he is the first player in the world to reach 2000 Challenger rank points – an incredibly impressive number, especially in a highly competitive environment with many factors that can disrupt games like League of Legends. At one point, Chovy even reached 2087 points but has since fallen below 2000 after two losses.

But clearly, even though Chovy has participated in many Worlds tournaments, there is an undeniable truth: he remains empty-handed at the tournament despite possibly having the strongest lineup, notably during Worlds 2022. In fact, Gen.G last year struggled to even get past DK only to be defeated by the fourth seed of LCK, DRX. At that time, Chovy even performed worse than Zeka.

Of course, it would be unreasonable to link personal achievements with the chance to compete for titles. But clearly, Chovy is in peak form right now and his skills have matured. If he cannot secure a title at this year’s Worlds, it could be the biggest regret of this talented Mid Laner’s career. And at that point, all achievements or records will become meaningless, especially when his senior and idol of the LCK – Faker has already secured three titles at the most prestigious tournament in League of Legends.
