Chovy Expresses Dissatisfaction with Teammates’ Playstyle
This season, Gen.G has clearly experienced a very poor group stage compared to their previous standards. Against four main competitors for the MSI 2026 spot and title, Gen.G’s record stands at a mere draw after the first and second rounds. Notably, during the first round, only T1 was defeated by the reigning LCK champions. Recently, Chovy openly shared that he feels Gen.G is out of sync.

Specifically, when coach Ryu asked players to self-feedback after the surprising defeat to T1, Chovy frankly said: “I feel the whole team is playing with the mindset of ‘just play like this and we’ll win, the opponent will lose’ even when we need a breakthrough, like in game 2. I really don’t understand why the team decided to stop pressuring and engaging in continuous fights in the bot lane when it was very effective. Why is everyone so afraid of fighting? If you don’t accept fights or play aggressively, you can’t win.”

Chovy’s Comments Reflect a Recurring Issue for Gen.G Over Several Seasons
In fact, Gen.G at the LCK and even MSI has had moments where their superstars exploded to create advantages and even secure overall victories. However, it’s undeniable that Gen.G plays very methodically to the point of being formulaic. When the players get used to this style and face unpredictable teams like T1, defeats become foreseeable.

Before losing to T1, Gen.G defeated HLE thanks to a crucial breakthrough moment late in the game. The problem was they couldn’t replicate that against T1, whose players like Faker and teammates executed even more unexpected plays. That likely was the key reason for the defeat that left Gen.G in third place after the group stage concluded.
