Although it has been a while since it ended, the defeat against RNG at the MSI 2022 Finals remains a hot topic in South Korea. This is understandable because T1 had an incredibly long winning streak from the spring tournament, and they were competing at home, making it hard for fans to forget the loss. Therefore, whenever members are invited for interviews, they are often asked about reasons for the defeat, how they overcame the disappointment of MSI 2022, and more.

Even Faker, the “chairman”, was not an exception when he received a similar question in a recent interview with Korizon Esports. He then shared a rather surprising insight that the reason he lost focus in Game 5 of the MSI 2022 Finals was due to competing on an empty stomach.

Question: Can you elaborate a bit more on Game 5 of the MSI 2022 Finals?
T1 Faker: Being defeated by RNG made the entire team realize that we weren’t well prepared strategically as we had too little time to study the opponent. Moreover, in Game 5, I went into the match on an empty stomach, which sometimes led to moments of distraction. To avoid such situations, I will have a light snack before competing.
If you didn’t know, in the MSI 2022 competition area, the organizers usually provide a variety of snacks from fruits to cakes and candies for players to satisfy their hunger. Perhaps during the break in that final match, Faker was too focused on the game and forgot about this, and by the time he realized he was hungry, it was too late.

Perhaps T1’s “chairman” chose to answer the interview in a humorous way on a sensitive topic to relieve the tension and pressure on his younger teammates. Losing to RNG is something very difficult for T1 to “swallow”, and it has weighed heavily on the team’s mentality recently. Therefore, a bit of humor from Faker will help lessen the criticisms aimed at T1, which is very important for T1’s young players.
In any case, the summer season has begun, and all teams (including T1) are aiming for the ultimate goal of the 2022 World Championship. Hopefully, T1 will maintain their high performance in the LCK Summer 2022 and secure their spot at the Worlds. There, they will have the opportunity to “take revenge” on RNG and aim for the prestigious title of world champion.
