In recent days, GAM Esports’ defeat has been the main topic of concern for VCS fans. It’s not just about the losses themselves, but also how GAM has lost to their opponents. In both matches, GAM did not demonstrate the stature of a region that international fans have faith in to create surprises. Notably, one of the two teams that defeated GAM was Movistar R7 – a representative from the wildcard region LLA.

This defeat not only signifies a loss but could also indicate that VCS’s position is threatened and its strength has declined compared to the past. Recently, renowned caster Hoàng Luân shared his thoughts on the question, “If GAM performs poorly at MSI, will VCS’s spot at Worlds be affected?” He asserted that MSI 2023 is merely a trial for Riot’s new format, so it will not be impacted. However, the esteemed caster also stated that everything could change if VCS representatives continue to perform poorly.

Recently, Caster Hoàng Luân provided new insights into the current state of VCS teams. He shared: “Currently, I’ve heard many teams expressing that they are about to run out of resources. In other words, many teams are struggling to make it through these final months as their budgets are running low.” Thus, it can be understood that several teams in VCS are at risk of “collapse” due to depleted operational funds.

In fact, many teams in VCS are operating on quite limited funding. Even at the end of 2022, there were rumors that Saigon Buffalo would sell the team to a new investor. However, the deal did not go through, and among the teams that Caster Hoàng Luân referred to, there may be the runner-up of last year’s VCS Summer Split. This comment from the caster has raised concerns among many fans, who openly expressed to him that VCS could face disbandment.

However, Caster Hoàng Luân confidently stated that VCS will still be organized as League of Legends in Vietnam is now directly managed by Riot. He mentioned that even if the current teams “collapse,” other names will still emerge. He even affirmed that players will still appear, although conditions may not be as favorable as they are now. Caster Hoàng Luân also noted that it is very likely that in times of adversity, quality players and teams like those from the VCS of yesteryears will arise.

Of course, this scenario may or may not happen. But one thing is certain: VCS will still exist, and very likely, in difficult times, new, quality faces will emerge to help VCS regain its strength and respect from the global League of Legends community.
