MSI 2021 – the world’s largest League of Legends tournament in the middle of the year officially concluded with the championship going to Royal Never Give Up, while DWG KIA – the reigning World Championship champions of 2020 only secured the runner-up position, leaving fans in the LCK region disappointed.
Putting aside the controversies regarding the schedule that hindered DK, it is clear that this year’s MSI 2021 did not showcase DK at their best, as they lost to a fluctuating Cloud9 in the return match of the group stage. Especially when entering the Rumble Stage, they fell in both matches against their opponents RNG.
In all the matches won (and lost) by DK, it is evident that two names have maintained their form since the 2020 World Championship: ShowMaker and Canyon. Even in the finals, while Khan shone the brightest in the game with Lee Sin, ShowMaker and especially Canyon carried throughout all 5 games, particularly Canyon when ShowMaker made a “critical” mistake in the deciding game.
Returning home, the first thing Canyon did was… change his ID name. Specifically, he changed it to “암쏘타이어드” (translated: I’m tired).
This has caused great concern among DK fans and Canyon fans, especially with the LCK Summer 2021 starting in about 2 weeks. But everyone clearly sees how hard Canyon has been trying all this time, and it is not surprising that he feels tired after continuously grinding and carrying DK along with his teammates.
The LCK Summer 2021 will officially kick off on June 9th, and the road ahead will be extremely challenging for Canyon and his teammates. Not only do they aim for the LCK regional crown, but they must also strive to secure a spot at the World Championship in China to defend their title.
