As T1’s internal affairs remain tangled in the aftermath of the firing of coaches Daeny and Zefa, fans and members of the organization have received yet another piece of bad news, as T1’s Operations Director, Mr. John Kim, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 41 due to illness.

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our Chief Operating Officer (COO) – John Kim. After being hospitalized on July 7 due to health issues, John passed away on July 16, 2021.
John was instrumental in building T1, tirelessly dedicating himself to our players and staff, and he will forever be remembered with profound sorrow. Along with the deep grief over the loss of a colleague and dear friend, we will continue our journey to honor the life and the wonderful times we had together with him.

John Kim, whose real name is Kim Won Churl, was born in 1980, and at the age of 41, he was known as one of the senior leaders of T1 Esports alongside CEO Joe Marsh. Previously, there had been discussions regarding the health status of this COO within T1. However, his passing remains an extremely sudden event, shocking the members of the organization. Especially during a time when the firing of Daeny and Zefa is still causing tension both internally and in the media.
