After finishing his analyst work in the LEC Spring 2020, Jakob “YamatoCannon” Mebdi – the former coach of Team Vitality, unexpectedly announced that he would join SANDBOX Gaming as the captain of this team for the upcoming LCK Summer 2020 campaign.
Everything seems to be settled, and once SANDBOX Gaming publishes an official announcement, YamatoCannon will make history as the first non-Korean coach to participate in the LCK tournament.

Previously, we were introduced to Nick “LS” De Cesare – the former coach of bbq Olivers, as the first foreign coach to participate in the professional League of Legends tournament system in Korea. However, since bbq only struggled in the lower leagues, there had yet to be any Western coach in the most prestigious tournament of League of Legends in Korea before YamatoCannon.
On the SANDBOX Gaming side, they had a deeply disappointing Spring 2020 tournament, only securing 5 out of 18 wins in the group stage and having to compete in the LCK Summer 2020 promotion round to fight for survival.

SB will enter the summer tournament with quite low expectations, even though just last year, they were in the competition for a spot at Worlds. However, with the current roster, YamatoCannon’s task will likely be simply to revive and help SB achieve the best possible results, laying the groundwork for the 2021 season.
