At the 2023 World Championship (Worlds), Gen.G and Chovy are highly regarded after recently winning the LCK Summer Split. Therefore, the mid-laner of Gen.G has become the center of media attention ahead of the 2023 Worlds. In his interviews, Chovy revealed several interesting insights about this tournament.

Most recently, Chovy praised Caps, stating that he is an extremely skilled player. “Since practicing for the Worlds, I have scrimmed with Caps several times. I feel that he is truly an outstanding player and stands out more than other players from the LEC region,” Chovy shared.

However, these compliments from the player inadvertently led to him receiving quite a bit of mixed feedback. This is because the question posed to Chovy was, “Which mid-laner from a smaller region impressed you?” Choosing Caps as his answer made the audience feel that Chovy was undermining the LEC, considering it just a “smaller region.”

Of course, we should also empathize with Chovy as he probably did not intend to undermine the LEC. Chovy might have understood the question as asking about Western mid-laners in general, which is why he chose Caps as his answer. In fact, G2 Esports and Caps are also highly regarded by many other players outside of Chovy for their good results in the practice phase.

Nevertheless, Chovy’s response in the interview has left quite a few fans in the LEC feeling dissatisfied. Perhaps, this will increase the drama and excitement in the matches between Gen.G and opponents from the LEC at the 2023 Worlds. This could also serve as great motivation for LEC teams to strive and prove that they are not a “smaller region.”
